Minister of Social Affairs H.E Chea Somethy and H.E Chea Phalkun Welcome Gold Medal Winner of Global IT Challenge

Phnom Penh – In a remarkable display of talent, 15-year-old John Pov Seerano, who overcomes physical disabilities, clinched the prestigious Gold Medal in the individual eLifeMap competition at the 12th Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities 2023 in Abu Dhabi. Seerano, a student of Preah Sisowath High School, showcased his exceptional skills and determination.

Furthermore, as a collective force, Cambodian youth with disabilities made the nation proud by securing the Bronze Medal in the team competition, “eContent.” The team included 15-year-old John Pov Seerano, 19-year-old Yen Mithuna from Lavalla School, 22-year-old Bo Visal also from Lavalla School, and 16-year-old Soem Sienghay, who is also a student at Lavalla School.

Upon their return, the winners were heartily welcomed by His Excellency Chea Somethy, Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, and Her Excellency Chea Phalkun at the Phnom Penh International Airport on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023. Dignitaries from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Disability Action Council joined in the celebration, expressing their pride and joy.

This exceptional achievement marks yet another historic honor for Cambodia’s disability sector, signifying the immense potential and capabilities of its youth with disabilities. These young individuals are not only an inspiration to the nation but also a testament to Cambodia’s commitment to inclusivity, empowerment, and equal opportunities for all its citizens, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds.

The 12th Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities 2023 witnessed the participation of 536 contestants from 18 countries worldwide. Among them were 461 young people with disabilities, with 95 competing in person and 366 engaging in online competitions.

These talented contestants hailed from Cambodia, the United Arab Emirates, Korea, Pakistan, Egypt, Nepal, Mongolia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, China, India, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Laos, and Indonesia.

The competition featured six diverse categories: 1-eTool (PowerPoint), 2-eTool (Excel), 3-eLifeMap, 4-eContents, 5-eCreative_Smart Car, and 6-eCreative_IoT.
