Minister of Social Affairs Encourages Drug Treatment Recipients to Focus on Rebuilding a Brighter Future

HE Chea Somethy, the Minister of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation, led a delegation from the Ministry of Social Affairs on a visit to assess the progress of the National Center for Voluntary and Community-Based Treatment and Rehabilitation for Drug Addicts in Keo Phos.

During the visit on September 25, 2023, Minister Chea Somethy engaged with individuals undergoing drug treatment at the center. He delivered words of encouragement to those in recovery, emphasizing the importance of engaging in physical activities, practicing patience, and maintaining faith in a society that does not discriminate against victims or former drug users.

HE Minister Chea Somethy expressed his optimism that those receiving drug treatment services at the Keo Phos National Center would achieve swift recovery and reunite with their families. He motivated them to move beyond their past and aspire to a brighter future, much like young saplings with the potential to mature into valuable human resources for the nation’s progress. Additionally, he conveyed a message of support from Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Situated in Rithy 2 Village, Keo Phos Commune, Stung Hav District, Preah Sihanouk Province, the National Center for Voluntary and Community-Based Treatment and Rehabilitation for Drug Addicts has the capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 individuals.

This center plays a pivotal role as a liaison to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, and Youth Rehabilitation, with a primary focus on the rehabilitation, education, vocational training, and reintegration of drug addicts into their communities and families.

Furthermore, the Keo Phos National Center is responsible for admitting individuals voluntarily, based on family requests and referrals from competent authorities, organizations, or the judicial system. It provides comprehensive physical and mental rehabilitation services to facilitate victims’ recovery in compliance with established medical procedures and relevant regulations.

The National Center for Voluntary and Community-Based Treatment and Rehabilitation for Drug Addicts regularly offers drug rehabilitation and vocational training services, equipping individuals with skills that aid their successful reintegration into their communities and families.
